Outdoor Cushions

You had a fantastic summer last year – lots of time spent in the backyard relaxing and enjoying time with your family. Nightly barbecues combined with the kids running around and playing all made you appreciate your backyard that much more. Well, now it’s time to break out the patio furniture and get your backyard ready for another summer of relaxation and good times. Problem is you seem to have lost a couple of your outdoor cushions and even worse, the few you can find are faded and smelly.

You really don’t want to replace all of your patio furniture. After all there is nothing wrong with your deck chairs, chaise lounge, table, benches and loungers. But sitting on a hard piece of metal or wood really isn’t practical or comfortable. Don’t despair, you do have options when it comes to your outdoor cushions.

Rather than buying a brand new set of patio furniture, how about just replacing your outdoor cushions? Yes this is possible and in fact the options available can really give your outdoor furniture and patio a facelift.

With advances in material and the padding used, outdoor cushions are now designed to last and to look good. Lets start with the padding – there are two standard options: foam or layered-polyester. Both are good choices with pros and cons for both. Whereas foam will absorb water and eventually mold, polyester outdoor cushions will not. But some people don’t find the polyester chair cushions to be that comfortable.

Next up is the cushion cover material. Again you have options ranging from a plastic like material to a cloth covering very similar to that used on your indoor furniture. Some of these coverings can be coated to prevent fading from the sun and to be stain-resistant. Consider who will be using your outdoor cushions – if you’ve got little kids you might want to choose the plastic like material that is easier to keep clean than the cloth coverings.

As you can see, the sky really is the limit with outdoor cushions. You still have to choose your new pattern and don’t forget to explore the option of getting custom-made and designed outdoor cushions. Whatever you choose, make sure you still get out there and enjoy your backyard as much as you did last summer.
